Those who follow me on Twitter or friends with me on Facebook might recall me complaining about my neighbors who let their dogs and cats run free. Why? Because I don’t want anything to rile my boy Titan up and it can be dangerous for all parties involved!
Anyway, tonight I come home and do my normal routine. You know, I talk about Titan and routine all the time. When I get home from work, first thing I do is walk Titan (with a collar and leash). We walk the perimeter of my property, he pee’s everywhere, we look at things, etc.
So tonight I’m walking him in my front yard. We always do it first. I hear the guy across the street yelling out back of his house….
“Come here! Want me get my belt? Come here!” And he repeats.
Now this is something I’ve been hearing more frequently that past month. So I look over there, as Titan and I am still waking in MY yard and see that his dog (brown unneutered labrador) is out back his house running around. Obviously, the dog was disobeying. Then I hear him say
“Don’t you even think about it! I’ll kick your ass!” (Geeze, really? I’m thinking)
So Titan and I stop, look over, and here comes this big brown lab running across the street into my yard! I grab Titan and we quickly get onto my front deck. We are standing there, I tell Titan “stay”. All is calm….on the deck.
This lab is now within twelve (12) feet of my front deck. It barks at Titan and me. I tell Titan “It’s ok. Stay.” He obeys me.
The lab then lunges and barks. Mind you, I don’t know this dog. All I know is it barks when people go to its house and apparently, it’s not good at listening to his owner. So I have no clue is this dog is aggressive or not.
After it lunged and barked again, Titan barks back. He’s still standing right by my side. The owner finally gets into my yard and goes to grab his dog. His dog pulls and barks. Titan barks a few more times and is now wanting to get off the deck. I have him under complete control.
The guy starts to take his dog out of my yard and says
“Sorry about that.”
First off, I wanted to bitch slap him right on out of my yard. Apparently, the Goddess had a hold on me and kept me calm. If I would have raised my voice, Titan would have reacted and not in a good way. He would have thought we were really threatened.
Btw at some point, the hubs came to the front door, opened it, and was my backup
.
So he takes his dog across the street, I never said a word, again because Titan would have reacted, and then Titan and proceeded to continue our walk. I kept praising Titan for being a good boy and standing his ground. He was protecting what is his.
Now I ask you, if it was my pitbull who was loose and went running into my neighbor’s front yard where him and his dog was (leashed mind you), do you think
“Sorry about that”
would have cut it?
..
..
Most definitely not……….animal control would probably be on its way.
Oh and now I know who’s dog took a huge green crap under the tree in my front yard two (2) days ago.
STRIKE 2!

You have been so proud of Titan! And you are right, if it way the other way around it would have been a PROBLEM…. I always go to a track to walk (unless I’m in the city at lunch) and even there some people let their dogs roam when the sign says “dogs must be on a leash.” Maybe they can’t read English.

Oh you got that right Lisa. I’m amazed at how well mannered he is, for a “pit bull”
. Two days ago I noticed a huge pile of dog crap in my front yard, today, another. I know it’s from this dog coming in my yard. The owners let him out in the am before they go to work. I’m gonna catch this dog in the act and put an end to this stuff. Sad thing is, these neighbors, like my hubs and I, stay to ourselves. They don’t talk to anyone. Also, this same dog, a month ago, went after a woman walking her dog down the street. I don’t mean aggressive, but the owner did not have control and it ran after this dog and woman. They stopped and giggled about it. It’s no laughing matter imo. I just hate to stir the pot but their actions are unacceptable anymore. I’m a responsible owner not only for my safety and Titan’s but for everyones. Sad, some people really suck.
Some people wow good for Titan so proud of him. I have seen that when we use to go to dog parks and it disturbed me.

I know, right Kita. WTF are people thinking? This is one reason I won’t ever go to a dog park. I trust my pit bull, I don’t trust others dogs nor the people. It’s sad
I know exactly how you feel. My neighbor has told me on two occasions that he doesn’t like me having a Pit Bull because it’s dangerous for his kids. Then he goes and buys this Bullmastiff which is about 3 times the size of my dogs and puts him on a chain 24/7. He gets loose off the chain sometimes; he walked by my back door the other day. I never let my dogs run loose, yet somehow because I have a Pit Bull, he still acts like I’m always in the wrong. =/ And let me add that my dog is super friendly and submissive, whereas his dog growls at me.

On a chain? Oh no, I hate hearing that. It’s the old double standard. People don’t think their dog will do anything yet, god forbid you let yours loose. Animal control would be there simply cause he has a big head or big chest. I’m giving these neighbors one more shot at it, and then I’m taking serious action. I can’t be afraid to walk Titan in my own damn yard. Titan is so protective of his yard and me, I don’t know what would have happened if I didn’t see the dog coming and it just surprised us.
You know you are totally right there, the cops would have been on your doorstep girl…good on you for being a responsible dog owner.

LOL… Titan is a good boy and is in control. Yeah, you should proud of him, else it could be gone so far. And well, you should proud of yourself too
Things went smoothly…

Thanks Mayura. He really is a good boy. It’s strange how I doubt him at times and he rises up and is a total gentleman. I am so proud of him and what I’ve done, but more so of him. A twice rejected dog and he acts like it never happened, well, most of the time. He does have emotional battle scars.
Pat yourself on the back for not letting the situation escalate. Some people are just nuts! Oh and I love the new layout.
Thank you on both counts Rebecca. I just don’t understand it. smh
