I Miss That Dang Dog

by Kita Bryant

I am the type that never liked dogs. I am a cat women. I grew up with cats and I remember my first one at the age of 3 his name was Ernie. Then I had a cat at around 8 her name was Sasha and she had 4 kittens and I loved them. I use to dress them up and put them in my dollhouse. They ran from me a lot though……I wonder why *side eye*. Anywhoo, I never did like dogs, they scared me. Now my mom had no problems with them, but I just had a fear of them (for whatever reason I don’t really know). Fast forward to a few years ago.

My hubs loves dogs. He watches the Dog Whisperer and the lady who does the training (forgot her name). He even has a tattoo of his favorite dog on his arms. What is his favorite dog? It’s the Boxer. My hubs loves boxers so much that every time he sees one, he will stop whatever he is doing and go talk to the owners so he can pet the dog. So he begged and begged a few years ago to get a dog, and me being a person who didn’t like dogs told him he could get one but he is responsible for him. I am not walking him, I am not feeding him, and I am not going to even look at him. Well we got the dog and my hubs named him Uno.

I admit he was a cutie pie and I tried my best not to like him but I did. He protected the home very well and my son loved him. I remember one time some strangers came to my door and I was outside with Uno.  They came up my driveway and Uno was barking at them and growling I was holding on to him for dear life. The lady asked me “He won’t bite will he?” I said “Not unless you get off my property, I might just let him loose.” (The lady was selling something and looked suspicious.)

We got into some bad times about a year after we got him and we could not afford to keep Uno. My hubs was so sad but we just could not care for him without money coming in. So my hubs found a good home for him. To this day, I miss that dog I still remember some of the times we had. I told the hubs when we get straight and finish paying these car notes off, I will get him another dog. Never knock something until you try it. I am now coming around to dogs more and can’t wait to get another one to join our family.

*Special thanks to Brenda for having me as a guest on her website. She is one of the reasons I am coming around to dogs more. I have learned so much from her and Titan. *

Kita is the author of Say What U Wanna and KoKoa Magazine. (BTW, today is the Grand Opening of the KoKoa Magazine website!)  She’s also a wife and a mother to two beautiful children, although she rarely share their pics with us. ;) (More pics Kita!) Kita blogs about life on Say What U Wanna and tells it like she sees it. I admire her bluntness in some of her posts. :) It shows me that she a “REAL” person and I’m all about being “REAL”. KoKoa Magazine is a new venture Kita has started. I highly suggest you hop on over there and check it out for yourself, About KoKoa Magazine.

On a personal note, I can’t remember how exactly I stumbled upon Kita’s Say What U Wanna blog, but I knew I had to subscribe! She is a fabulous lady and I suggest you take a moment and get to know her. Kita can also be found on Twitter and Facebook promoting her Magazine.  Kita, I thank you so much for this Guest post. I am glad I’ve gotten to know you and look forward to the day you get the new furbaby!

  1. Nice to meet you Kita,
I so can relate, always had cats. I am afraid of dogs too, mostly bigger ones because I was bit 3 times as a kid. I did have a big dog during my 1st marriage – I was not asked, I came home and there was a puppy. I asked what kind, it was part Akita and husky.. I looked Akita up and learned it was the biggest dog there is, he grew to 150 lbs but we had to give him up as he kept breaking his chains and running away. He hit a truck years later and damaged the truck – he was fine :)
Brenda has inspired me too to think different about pit pulls, she is amazing, huh? Could not believe Titan was her first dog.
I will have to check out your blog and magazine.

    • Lisa, I’m glad that I have touched in you with my stories of Titan and other pit bulls. Although Titan was not my very first dog, he was my very first dysfunctional rescue pittie! I wouldn’t trade him for the world!

    • Thanks for coming by to check me out. I have heard about the Akita dog it’s almost named after me and since the hubs is into dogs he did mention that at one time. Thank you so much for commenting

  2. to be honest, i’m not a dog or cat person, but Titan, Titan’s beautiful mug makes me want a dog…i just don’t want another child to care for LOL
    Great post!
looking forward to checking out your websites Kita!

    • Thank you V! I’m glad that my stories about Titan have touched you. Trust me, dogs are like children however, I think they’re much cuter! hahaha :)

    • Thanks so much. They are like children but I am use to taking care of kids and a dog I don’t have to worry about getting any shots so I don’t mind lol. Thanks for commenting

  3. Thank you so much for having me on I told my hubs I wrote about his dog and he looked like he wanted to cry poor thing. Thanks for everything.

    • Thanks for featuring! I hope my friends and readers will check out not only SayWhatUWanna but KoKoa Magazine. Thank you sweets! Muwah!

btw, I love it! Poor hubs :(

  4. Thanks for sharing. Boxers are great guard dogs. I never thought I’d be a dog person, but I grew to love mine tremendously.
LOL at your response to the sales lady.

  5. I’m not a dog person either. I had several dogs when I was a kid, but I kind of grew out of them. My kids and husband want one soo bad! I dont understand how he doesn’t want anymore kids, but wants a dog. We’ll see what the future holds with the dogs.

    • Awww maybe you haven’t met the right kind of dog. Not one that you buy in a store but one that you save. A dog that was unwanted to given up for death. These are the dogs that truly leave paw prints on our hearts. They are so happy to be loved, all they want to do is please their owner. :)

    • Lol mines say the same thing he does not want kids but wants another dog his argument is they are cheaper. Thanks for visiting

  6. Hi Kita,

Nice story about how you start being liking doggies (My favorites) :) Anyway when I read it I remember my girlie. She’s a cat woman too (Not the one in Batman series) and now because of me she start liking doggies too. Anyway I like cats too but puppies make me feels so much better. Puppies better than kitties :D LOL… Jus’ kidding… Well, for me ;)

I’m sorry that you had to leave Uno. I’m really sad when I read it. No, it’s not your fault but if he’s in good hands, that’s all.

Thanks for sharing about it dear :) I know Brenda love to hear you love puppies now. Hope you will get one soon after

Nice to meet you Kita :)

Have a GREAT week for both of ya puppy lovers ;)

    Cheers…

  7. Kita I wanted a boxer growing up but my husband has always had a fondness for Pitt Bulls so that’s what we have. We just got a new one this past weekend! I hate that they get a bad rap though. Good luck with the mag. It’s going to go far!

    Hugs and Mocha,
    Stesha

Woof at us ;) !
