Seriously! I heard it on the news today! Well actually, today is not the day I heard it but anyone, I heard it on the news 8/8/12.
It’s Official! 3rd hand smoke from cigarettes (ie., smoke on someone’s clothes that got there from being around someone who was smoking) is now hazardous to your health! OMFG! Seriously?
Now a lil history, I am an EX-Smoker. I quit November 1, 2007 and haven’t gone back…..yet. Does this mean I’m a non-smoker? Technically, imo, NO. I means that I quit for today.
Ok, back to the title. I found an article online. You can read it here,
Scientists: Third Hand Smoke Also a Danger
I have to laugh and I guess I should apologize, but Come On! Really?
If smoking cigarettes is that much of a danger to our health and well-being AND is now proven to be dangerous via 2nd hand and NOW 3rd HAND smoke, why not just BAN CIGARETTES!
WHY AREN’T PEOPLE JUMPING ON THE BAN WAGON TO MAKE CIGARETTES ILLEGAL?
HELL, they are already trying to change gun laws! Statistics probably prove that CIGARETTES kill more people than PEOPLE shooting and killing PEOPLE! For that matter, probably more than VEHICLE ACCIDENTS!
Seriously, I don’t mean to rant and I’m not judging anyone who smokes, cause as an EX-Smoker, I still believe Smokers have Rights. However, there is a time (especially with our wonderful Government of today), STEP UP, QUIT PUTTING OUT DANGER WARNINGS AND BAN THE SHIT ALREADY!
Ugh, ok, rant done.
Smoke up baby!

All this mess about cigarette is getting ridiculous I have been around people who smoke and although I don’t smoke I know how to move to the left if it’s too much and I don’t go around it if I know it’s a problem. Cigarettes will never be illegal people will fight that people need that like they need coffee

You’re probably right Kita. They make too much money off of selling cigarettes, why make em illegal. But that said, they need to STFU about all the dangers and let people make their own decisions. Everyone knows, even children, the breathing in that smoke isn’t good for you, however, some people just don’t care. Get tired of the media over-exaggerating things and not focusing on what’s important, like our economy, getting jobs, and ending all this turmoil in our country.
I live with a smoker and I can’t stand it. Even moving to the left or right you can still smell it and I can just imagine what my lungs may look like someday. How long did you smoke for Brenda?
Maybe if they keep raising the prices or taxes on them it will help.

I smoked off and one since my early 20′s but pretty steady for about 10 years prior to my quitting. I told my hubs when he retired from the Air Force, I would quit smoking. I had tried many times before and was unsuccessful. Mind you, I never smoked in the house with my hubs. Always went outside, just out of courtesy. I just with the media would either stop or just ban the crap. :/
So how did you finally quit?

I started with that pill, Zyban? Can’t remember, however a couple days into it, I thought I was losing my mind. So stopped and tried the gum. The gum eased the need to smoke because it was still feeding me with nicotine. Then I got addicted to it.
Weaned myself slowing off and haven’t touched one since. The hardest thing was being around smokers and driving. I held licorice like a cigarette because I jones it so much. Plus I had to distance myself from smokers.
Hi Brenda,
Under the theme “STOP SMOKING”, here our Government imposed restrictions on smoking. They increased price, introduced policies but never banned cigarettes or selling it
So dumb, I know.
I’ve heard that E-Cigeratte is becoming popular right now. Could be a solution for health issues at least for non-smokers. But don’t know exactly. BTW it could attract new smokers in that way. Bad things are bad
Cheers…

Thanks Mayura! They keep increasing prices here, won’t allow you to smoke in buildings, restaurants, ball games, etc., but people continue to buy and continue to smoke. I don’t begrudge people who smoke because although it is harmful, it was also relaxing and calming. But I keep going back to if it’s sooooo horrible for us, why continue to market them?
May be BIG hands behind the bad stuff
They keep earning money no matter what. My question is why people still buying ‘em if they even know it’s harmful? Ignorance? Addiction? Whatever, they keep selling and people buying ‘em. It’s still one’s responsibility to be away from it or use it.
If it’s better and healthy alternative where they don’t suffer from health issues while enjoying smoking, it would be better yet
Cheers…

Banning isn’t going to solve the problem (never will). It will only cause the problem to become much bigger.
Take the case of banning alcohol in US. More alcohol was sold in the banned period than ever before (because of boot legging).
If you tell a person not to do something (especially, if that’s the government), they are going to do it (that’s why we break laws, but then again, we also keep them due to our financial or political situation; we can’t afford a ticket or we don’t want to get a ticket).
Banning guns isn’t going to solve anything either (Think about it – If you ban guns, the people who use them illegally, are they going to stop using guns? Nope. On the other hand, people who use it for protection would have to turn their guns in, so crime rate would increase). Same goes for cigarettes, people who do it and are addicted to it are going to smoke. No matter what we do (there isn’t any enforcement agencies that is efficient enough to enforce any law to the hundred percent).
But, hey didn’t know that 3rd hand smoke would hurt too.
Did I make the comment boring by using third person?

haha very valid points there Jeevan! I just wish if they aren’t going to ban it, quit talking about it. People know it’s dangerous. It parents don’t stress that to their children and the schools don’t, it’s a shame. I just think there’s more important things to discuss in our world that 3rd hand smoke.
As always, a pleasure having you stop by!
Hmm, well I think that is going a bit overboard. I think as long as I don’t let my kids stand in the same room as a person who’s currently smoking a cigarette, it’s all good. Lol.

i agree. They are getting a tad ridiculous with this.
I believe, smoking is always bad. But people still buying them too. Even if government increases prices, people never quit it, sometimes they find alternatives too
. And government can’t stop making cigarettes because they will give more income from taxes.
If people need to die early, how others will stop it!
Chathu recently posted…How Do You Face to a Worse Change?
Thanks sweetie. I’m with you. No matter how high you raise the prices, people will still buy them. I wish the media would just quit scaring the public.
What gets me is how cigarettes are more harmful than weed but weed is illegal. I’m a lite smoker since Jan this year. Lite as in about 2 cigs a week. I smoke outside the house and never in the car. I try not to smoke in front of my teen. I try to hold the cig as far from me as possible because I hate the smell (Funny, right!).
I think it’s all the additional additives in the cigs. Pure tobacco is not as harmful. I believe in moderation though. Just like a drink or two won’t kill you, neither will smoking pure tobacco or weed if done every now and then.
Thanks J. I feel it’s fine to educate on the dangers but stop making up crap. Really? 3rd hand smoke? Come on …. geeze
