I Just Want to Feel Pretty

Do you ever have those days? Those months? Years maybe, where you don’t quite feel as pretty as you used to?

You’re getting older, possibly gaining some weight.

Maybe married and don’t get the compliments or the hanky panky like you used to.

And you just start to feel…… BLAH!

What do you do in order to recapture that “pretty” feeling?

I had to laugh the other day. My hubs saw me bring in a package from my truck. I get most of my shipments to work so the delivery person doesn’t rile Titan up while I’m at work. Anywho……………….

“What’s in the package?”

“My backorder from Victoria Secrets.” I say

“What is it?”

“More panties.” I say

“How many pairs do you need?” He says

“Well I like to have panties that somewhat match my bra’s, like my new bra’s.”

He replies “When did you become a GIRLY GIRL?”

So I quickly think about how I want to say this and it just blurts out…. “By me matching my bra’s and panties, makes me feel pretty about myself. You know, cause you don’t tell me I’m pretty or compliment me on anything so I have to make my own self feel pretty! “

……end of convo

For me, it might be some matching Victoria Secret’s bra’s and panties and also the new sundresses I’ve been buying lately. Yeah, I haven’t been a dress/skirt wearing in many years, but recently………..I’m really into it. Why?

  1. It’s cooler on 90+ temp days that go into triple digits
  2. It makes me feel pretty and feminine

I don’t know if it’s so much the “feeling pretty” thing or if it’s a phase of just changing up my attire. Shaking things up a bit because I’ve been so happy and so thankful. Whatever it is, I’m liking it but I don’t think the checkbook is. haha Just kidding, I moderate and trust me, I don’t buy expensive stuff. Well VS is a tad expensive but it’s also good quality that holds up! :)

If you’re feeling slightly less pretty or down right frumpy, what do you do in order to give you that “pretty” feeling again?

I do the same thing well except for the matching. It’s a good concept but I’m too lazy to shop that way :)

    • Well by matching I mean, for example, white bra/panties that have some white in em. I’m not talking exact match. hehe That’s way too hard to do! :) Thanks for stopping by Stephanie!

  2. Oddly, the older I get the prettier I feel. It might be in part becasue I am newly single and spend more time on myself, not sure.

I personally think you are beautiful and I have met you IRL. :)

    • Awww thanks sweetie! ~hugs~ I’m not sure what it is. Something about a new dress, or new matching bra and panties, or maybe it’s just feeling somewhat of a girlie girl? Maybe that’s it? My hubs even commented “When did you become a girlie girl?” Maybe it’s a phase I’m going through. Back in my 20′s, I rocked the heels, mini’s, etc., and felt very pretty. I’ve been slack on that for many years now and recently started wearing sundresses again. Hmmm maybe that’s it! :)

  3. Nice post Brenda!

Oh yes! I think most of us undergo the same feelings as you mentioned, which happens as we age and see our hanging skin, especially if you aren’t really into exercising and other things required to really maintain yourself.

I guess everything takes a back seat, especially for mothers when they have kids and have to look after them and manage a family as well. But yes, we need to feel good about ourselves and just as you mentioned, I go out and have a good time shopping for things I used to when I was younger! I even get a different hairdo done when I want to feel good or even doing things different than you do normally makes you feel good about yourself

    Thanks for sharing. :)

    • You’re absolutely right! Changing up “anything” could make one feel pretty. I started putting my hair up in braids! haha Yes, probably too old for braids but I feel “cute” when I do it! :) Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! :)

  4. I go for a pedicure and a new outfit – was having one of those days with zits – at this age still. Like either could hide it :) You always look so fashionable with your new photo images on Twitter…(different hair style or color, etc)

    • Lisa, I have no clue why it keeps spamming your posts? I’m gonna have to add your ip addy to my safe list. Sheesh……….. Oh yeah, new outfits will do it! I’ve never done the pedi thing. I don’t like people touching my feet. :) And don’t worry about the zits, I get em too… ALL over! My dermatologist prescribed some Cleocin to help with the acne. Oh my, now I’m blushing… ;) Thank you for the compliment! Very much appreciated!

  5. Painting my toes does it for me. There’s nothing like pretty pedicured toes to liven up my day and mood!

    • Oh yeah Stesha! Toe nails and sometimes finger nails but then I have times that it’s not good enough. Need more “pretty” outlets. :)

  6. I like your way you do to feel pretty ;) . But anyway you almost a pretty women. And I got a haircut to feel pretty! :) . Nice post Brenda, nice & honest writing style you have. <3

  7. I get that way a lot. I’m not into clothes much, but I am an accessory whore. I buy a new pair of sunglasses, sneakers, flip flops, or a purse. I’ll buy a new lip gloss or something. I’m working on putting as much work into myself as I do with others, but it’s a struggle. I’m used to making everyone else feel pretty that I end up neglecting myself. How bad is that?

    • Tina, I can definitely relate to that. I spent many, MANY years putting others before myself. I finally had to stop. It will wear on you and you’ll lose yourself, or at least I did. Now I put me first! May be self centered but I feel a hell of a lot better about myself. ;)

  8. I absulety know this feeling! For me wearing a high-heels and dying my hair really worked!

    • Oh yeah! A different color hair or some highlights? Absolutely! I love your way of thinking! Thank you for stopping by too! I hope you’ll return soon! :)

  9. girl don’t worry you’re not alone. and though my hubby makes me feel pretty (mention that part to yours) what the heck does he know? :-D whenever i’m feeling down, i have the teens straighten my hair. it’s just sexier when it’s straight and perks me right up.

    • haha My hubs is a “non” emotion showing kinda guy so I have to pull a compliment out of him, if that’s what ya wanna call it. It’s no bigger, but I do like to feel pretty. When I feel pretty, my attitude changes and I walk a lot prouder. :)

  10. Its funny I’ve bought makeup and pretty clothes to feel pretty, but for whatever reason I still reach for my simple facial moisturize, my cocoa butter chap stick, a tshirt a pair of jeans and whatever comfy shoes I can find, all my “make me feel pretty” things are just sitting there :/ I might purposely have to donate my tshirts so I can start wearing my other stuff :) Great post!

    • haha Thank you for stopping by! I feel so naked with out my makeup and hair done but I will admit, if it’s a day that I’m not leaving the house, I enjoy giving my face and hair a break. ;

    Found this post from #FlashbackFriday! I know it’s Monday, I’m just a few days late… :)

I think the convo you had with your hubby defending your panty purchases is so funny but oh so true. I have several friends who’ve questioned my purchases and I think the argument is about the same. There’s something to wearing matching bra + underwear underneath your clothes!

    • Haha Thank you so much for stopping by! I just can’t explain the feeling I get from pretty bras and panties. I will admit, it is strange, but I sure do feel pretty! :)

  12. I’m late, too, to the Flashback Friday linky, but better late than never! I tend to glam up with makeup and accessories and heels if I want to get my girly girl on. Works like a charm every time!
